SUNY teachers rally in Albany
ALBANY, N.Y. -- More than 300 members of United University Professions joined with others for a rally at the Capitol. They're asking Governor David Paterson to allow SUNY to spend nearly $110 million in revenues which have been frozen by the state budget division.

Leaders of the rally say Paterson has the opportunity to stand with them and help fight their cause with the budget division.

"Tell them you are not going to destroy our University, you are not going to destroy our upstate economy, when everybody is looking to bring jobs and bring work to the Upstate area. We educate the kids, and we provide the jobs for the work they bring in, you can't bring them in if the University is folding, you can't attract them," said Alan Lubin, with New York State United Teachers.

The group stressed that the money is not from taxpayers. It's money that college students and their families have paid to SUNY for tuition, room and board, and other fees.
