Packages help breast cancer victims

Packages help breast cancer victims
ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Twenty-three restaurants across the county are all featuring a special dessert this month with the proceeds going to a local non profit known as Positively Pink Packages.

Basically every time the dessert is sold the money will be used to put together a care package for a breast cancer victim in the area. The care packages include everything from books, CD's, a pillow and other items to help comfort someone coping with breast cancer. Some local restaurants we visited are offering special dishes including pink carrot cake, canoli's and pink ribbon cookies. Last year the campaign raised about $5,000 and there's a goal to get more restaurants involved.

Positively Pink Packages founder Jennifer Tom said, "I hope that every year this event kind of grows and grows, I would love to see eventually fifty to one hundred restaurants. Just a wonderful way to give back and the restaurants have all been so responsive, so it has been fantastic."

Tom says restaurants can still participate this month if they're interested. She says she'd like to see the effort continue throughout the year.
