Students to participate in singing camp
LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- Seven students from both Chestnut Hill Middle School and Liverpool High School have been putting in a lot of work in order to get ready for this camp. Later Thursday morning seven 13 and 14-year-olds will be leaving for the Rochester Institute of Technology for this Harmony Explosion Camp. The students will join about 200 other high school and college age youths from the Northeast and Canada.

This local group has been spending countless hours with their music teacher Sky Harris learning and practicing barbershop and a cappella harmony.

The students will be learning the craft even more and then they will get to perform in front of a large audience on Saturday night. Singing these styles is very challenging and their teacher says these students have made a commitment to learn. The group is looking forward to the trip.

"I'm looking forward to meeting new people and meeting people that have had the same experiences," said Kaylee Bartlett.

"It's wonderful because you actually get the experience to do this. Like, other people they might sing but they just don't want to take it anywhere. It's really fun," Lizzie Loucks said.

The group consists of six girls and one boy.

The scholarships were provided by The Barbershop Harmony Society and Spirit of Syracuse Sweet Adelines Chorus.
