SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Empire State Games started in Syracuse in 1978 and one candidate for mayor says he wants to bring them back.
Conservative candidate Otis Jennings wants to get the ball rolling toward getting the games back to Syracuse starting at the beginning of next year. The goal is to bring the games back, not once, but for a two year run in 2012 and 2013.
Jennings says the games could inject $10 to $12 million into the city.
"We're looking to bring this event back to our city as a way of generating revenue, bringing people from across the state, and having wonderful athletic games here in the city,” said Jennings.
The games were last held in Syracuse in 2002. They were suspended last year, but are scheduled to resume in Buffalo in 2010.
