ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- You can remove another name from the list of potential republican challengers to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

There had been a brief flurry of speculation that the minority leader of the state Assembly might jump into the race. But Geneva Assemblyman Brian Kolb met with republicans in the Syracuse area telling them he expects to announce his formal decision soon, but is unlikely to run.

"I got to tell you. I love what I do. I love representing the 129th Assembly district. I love being minority leader. I think we have an opportunity to change state government. And so I think that's my focus," Kolb said.

Kolb's move leaves former Nassau County legislator Bruce Blakeman as the only announced candidate for the republican nomination for Gillibrand's Senate seat.
