MANLIUS, N.Y. -- A Syracuse area businessman has formally entered the race for the Republican nomination for Congress in the 25th Congressional District.
Mark Bitz is hoping to edge out at least two others to grab the GOP and Conservative nominations in the race against Democrat incumbent Dan Maffei.
Bitz says he decided to run after concluding the current leadership in Washington is taking the wrong approach.
"Those who know me, know me as a very mild mannered person. But seeing 20 million people in need of a job and $13 trillion of our wealth evaporate in the last year and a half really upsets me," said Bitz.
Bitz is expected to take a significant role in funding his own campaign. He also vows to limit any service in Washington to 12 years. He is being challenged for the nomination by former Syracuse common councilor Ann Marie Buerkle and former Conservative Party leader Paul Bertan.
