SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Syracuse gallery that did much to promote local art will permanently shut its doors.

The Delavan Art Gallery on West Fayette Street opened in 2003. In that time, they've put on hundreds of exhibits featuring local artwork and performances. But citing the economy and other reasons, the gallery owner decided to close after six-and-a-half years.

The space will now be turned into five smaller art-related areas.

The official closing date is May 1st, after the end of the current exhibit, "The Color of Spring."
