SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Hundreds of women are fine-tuning their vocal cords as they get ready for this weekend's Sweet Adeline convention in Syracuse.
The singing organization has a local chapter, called the Spirit of Syracuse. This year, they're hosting the Region 16 convention at the Oncenter.
Choruses and quartets from New York and Ontario are competing to represent the region at the 2011 International Convention in Houston. And they are encouraging everyone to come out and watch.
"If you like glee or American Idol, or you always sang, it's a little bit of that. It's singing a capella style, there's a little dancing, we sing very close harmonies without instrumentation, so you kind of get a rush from the harmony, and it's just a lot of fun," said Kathy Strang.
The Spirit of Syracuse Chorus currently has about 60 members.
