VESTAL, N.Y. -- A chemical spill and a bus accident on the Binghamton University campus just hours apart. It didn't really happen, but hundreds of nursing students from BU's Decker School will be prepared if it ever does.
The students took part in the 12th annual disaster preparedness drill. The goal was to put their classroom skills into practice, learning everything from triaging to dealing with frantic patients.
"Not just education just for skills, but education to see what everyone does together. You can't do this alone, it's not just a one man team," said Amanda Kazanivsky, a senior nursing student.
The students also create an emergency preparedness plan prior to the exercise. The plan was actually put into use during the 2006 floods.
