OWEGO, N.Y. -- Earlier this year, VH1 teamed up with teen heartthrob Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers for a special competition and now Hover, a local band from Owego, has finished second in the nationwide vote.
The band of 12- and 13-year-olds scored big with their homemade music video for "She Kissed Me Back." The goal behind the campaign is to raise money and awareness for school music programs.
As the second place finisher, the Owego-based group will received $1,000, money they'll donate to their middle school's music department.
"I think it's good that everyone tries to play an instrument in the school band or sing in the chorus," said Ian Williams, drummer for Hover.
"It can help kids who aren't good at math or social studies do well at music and know they can do as well as other people can," said Jacob Kurtz.
Several of the band members are involved in chorus or band and say their success, in part, is attributed to what they've learned in music class.
