WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Animal lovers and bike enthusiasts helped shelters while enjoying the scenery of New York State this weekend.

Pedaling for Paws began last year when two friends wanted to bicycle to Canada. They decided the best way to take on the adventure was to raise money for local SPCAs.

The five-day, 485-mile ride took them through Pennsylvania and New York, ending in Canada.

The group's motto is ride locally, donate locally and benefit locally. They hope more local bikers and animals join them along their ride.

Viktor Ohnjec of Pedaling 4 Paws said, "If they like to ride or they like animals, we invite them to join us on the ride, a portion of, the entire thing, whatever they choose. Even just anyone who likes animals, they should donate on behalf of their favorite charity."

Pedaling 4 Paws has raised more than $5,000 throughout this ride.
