HORSEHEADS, N.Y. -- School is out for summer, but for some students, the learning hasn't stopped. The Wings of Eagles Discovery Center in Horseheads began its four-week Science Academy Monday.
The program teaches math, science, and technology to 24, students in grades three through eight. Students are able to get a hands-on education in rocketry, robotics and flight simulators.
The director of education said it's important to keep children learning throughout the summer.
"You can't blow off the summers if you want to build skills," said Wings of Eagles Director of Education Ron Hoodak. "You've got to do something in the summers. Not that it's got to be everyday through September. It doesn't have to do that. But you've got to have an activity to stimulate thinking through the summer. That's how you grow as a person."
Students will also have the opportunity to fly an airplane with an instructor.
