Thousands of children are celebrating across New York State as they find a home with their new families. Friday is National Adoption Day. Our Erin Clarke was at a special event in Onondaga County where 53 Central New York adoptions were finalized.

"We're here for the adoption day for our daughter Samantha. We adopted her last year and we're here to celebrate her day," John Sergi, who recently adopted four-year-old Samantha from China.

For John and Jonni Sergi this is the second time the sound of that bell means they're giving a little girl a home.

"We were so happy when we adopted Sofia, we decided and she also helped us decide that she wanted a sister," said Sergi.

The Sergis did some research and spent two weeks in China each time to adopt their daughters. The process took a couple of years, but they say the time was worth it. A sentiment shared by all the Central New York families at the Oncenter Friday.

"I think we have some of the most generous families and loving families anywhere in the country, just look at the numbers here today," said Onondaga County Family Court Judge, Martha Walsh Hood.

It's not only international adoptions that took place. Nancy and Frank Woods, who adopted siblings domestically in 2006 and then twins years later, commended the families that adopted some of the 341 children in the Central New York area who need a home.

"There are so many children right here locally that either have been freed or are in Foster Care," said Nancy Woods.

Her 14-year-old daughter Gayle thinks it's great that she has a big family now.

"That was always my dream to have a little sister or even two, so I guess it came true," said Gayle Woods.

A true testament that there's a family for every child.
