ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Chargers and the Baldwinsville girls' crew team now have a new racing boat to take out on the water.

The "Coach Wilson" was unveiled Friday at Onondaga Lake Park. The boat is named after former Baldwinsville coach Pat Wilson. And used to christen the new scull was water from the finish line of the team's course.

The high schoolers partnered with the women's rowers club to raise the $32,000 needed to buy the boat. And they say just like the sport itself, it was a team effort. They hope it inspires others to join in.

"Rowing is the ultimate team sport. Of all the team sports you can think of, no other sport requires nine people, in an eight person boat, eight rowers and a coxswain, to work exactly together in a coordinated way in a racing environment. And the only way you can be successful is to have that team work and coordination," said Alberto Bianchetti, Baldwinsville Crew Booster Club President.

There are 50 girls on the Baldwinsville crew team and they will share the boat with the Chargers.
