COOPERSTOWN - Under a perfect sky, the third annual Baseball Hall of Fame Classic made another perfect Fathers Day for the thousands who packed Doubleday Field with Phil Niekro's Knucksies coming back to beat Ozzie Smith's Wizards 8-6.
Dmitri Young was named the game's Most Valuable Player, capping a big day that started with him winning the hitting contest prior to the game.
The Hall of Famers who took part were: Andre Dawson, Goose Gossage, Phil Niekro, Jim Rice, Ozzie Smith and Dick Williams. In addition to Young, the other former Major Leaguers on the rosters were Joel Bennett, Steve Braun, Frank Catalanotto, Don DeMola, Frank DiPino, John Doherty, Doug Glanville, Steve Grilli, Jim Hannan, Dave Henderson, Phil Huffman, Bob Kaiser, Rick Lancellotti, Jack Lazorko, Bill Lee, Oreste Marrero, Dale Murphy, Billy Sample, Reggie Sanders, Mike Timlin, Jon Warden, Willie Wilson and Rick Wise.
