SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Two weeks from Friday, the SU football team opens training camp, but Monday, some of the guys have already hit the field to make an impact in a different kind of way.

It's called the Youth Impact Program, the brainchild of former 49'er Riki Ellison brought to Syracuse by Daryl Gross and Doug Marrone. Former SU player Joe Fields runs it and he's getting help from current players like Chandler Jones and Philip Thomas.

The second annual program targets "at-risk" young men in grades six through eight from the inner city trying to build their skills in football and in life..

The program wraps up July 29th.

SU training camp begins August 5th.
