ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A ceremony was held at Onondaga Community College on Wednesday to say thank you to student veterans.
More than 50 men and women were recognized at the Gordon Student Center. OCC has assisted more than 200 veterans annually for the last 25 years and the school's Office of Veterans Affairs serves as a direct link between students and the VA Office.
Veterans on hand received a specialized coin which represents the community's appreciation for their sacrifices.
"We created the coin in line with the Military Challenge coin and it’s meant to be a lasting reminder of the appreciation of the community for our military veterans’ service," said Peter Allen, Executive Director of Thank a Service Member, Inc.
OCC was named one of the "Top 15 Best for Vets Colleges" by Military Times EDGE Magazine.
