TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Tompkins County woman is facing animal abuse charges. Christina Carpenter of Newfield is accused of starving one dog to death and surrendering a second to the SPCA in an emaciated state.

Carpenter is charged with two misdemeanors for failure to provide proper sustenance. The surviving dog required extensive care and is recovering in foster care.

Carpenter is due in Newfield Town Court on Thursday.
