CORNING, N.Y. -- There seems to be some confusion among Corning leaders about whether to move forward with a plan to put fluoride in the city's water.

Council members already voted to add fluoride to the water supply. But a referendum set for November could change that. Council members, meanwhile, ordered the city manager to pursue the fluoridation plan but not spend any money on it. Friday night, code

committee members decided to stop discussing the issue. But they say stopping the manager will require action by the whole council, possibly even a repeal of their original fluoride vote.

Right now it's not clear when council members might address the fluoride issue.
