LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- Local students put their egg-moving skills to the test Saturday at the Sensis Student Engineering contest. More than 80 students from seven area high schools competed.

Teams had to construct a machine that could navigate an egg through an obstacle course. Organizers said the contest provides hands-on engineering experience and also teaches organizational, teamwork, and presentation skills.

"We give them feedback on how we think they're doing on their solution, whether we think it's going to work or not, give them tips. We grade them on their presentation and then it culminates here in this event where they bring the machines they built and show us the solution to their problem,” said Laura Livingston, contest coordinator.

This is the seventh year for the engineering contest.
