Search for missing Killawog woman
KILLAWOG, N.Y. -- Residents in the small town of Killawog are shocked to learn one of their neighbors is missing. 40-year-old Bethanie Dougherty was last seen on April first. Dozens of sheriff's deputies and volunteers are still searching for her.

"We don't know what happened to her yet so that's our biggest concern right now is trying to locate her," said Broome County Sheriff David Harder.

The Broome County Sheriff's Department is investigating the suspicious disappearance of Bethanie Dougherty, who lives on Jennings Creek Road in Killawog.

At around 3:00 a.m. on April 2nd, New York State Police were called to Jennings Creek Road for reports of a woman screaming, but were unable to locate anyone screaming upon arrival.

"As I understand it, the State Police interviewed several people and some of them said they could hear it very loudly and some of them next door just a house away or so could hardly hear it," said Harder.

"This is very shocking to the small town of Killawog, you know? Things like this don't happen in Killawog," said Julie Pendell, a neighbor of Dougherty's.

"It's scary. I know her, I knew her kid ever since kindergarten and it's just kind of scary," said another neighbor, Shane Koenig.

The sheriff's department said Dougherty lived at home with her son, and say he isn't sure exactly when she disappeared.
