New dispute about money in 25th District race
CENTRAL NEW YORK -- There are claims that Harlem congressman Charles Rangel failed to report $75,000 in income from a vacation villa he owns in the Dominican Republic.
Democratic Congressional hopeful Dan Maffei worked for Rangel as a spokesman for Democrats on the Ways and Means Committee and Rangel, according to some reports, has helped to raise more than $100,000 for Maffei's campaign. The Republican in the race, Dale Sweetland, said that money should be returned to Rangel.

“Dan Maffei worked for Charlie Rangel for many, many years in Congress. And they have a very close relationship. In fact, in July Dan Maffei filed an amendment to the statement of organization for a campaign fund making the Rangel Victory Fund a direct fundraising arm of the Dan Maffei campaign,” Sweetland said.
Sweetland's campaign missed a financial filing deadline last week. The Maffei campaign said Sweetland is facing the possibility of thousands of dollars in fines from the Federal Election Commission and should worry about his own problems before criticizing others.
