County distributes anti-gang comic books
ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. - The Oneida County Youth Bureau is teaming with Compeer of the Mohawk Valley to lead children away from the temptation of joining gangs. To do this, they have distributed nearly 1,200 copies of Gangbuster comic books.

The comic, which is aimed at grade-school students, sends an easily readable message about the consequences of gang involvement.

County Executive Anthony Picente says it's meant to change children's perception that becoming involved in gangs is a way to become accepted. "If the way to be accepted is in a gang, what the message is here is that's not how to be accepted and it's not being part of any kind of gang that is involved in the wrong kind of activity," said Picente.
