WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Police in Watertown are warning homeowners of a possible scam involving a person claiming to be from the Toys for Tots program.

At about 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, police say a white male came to a door on Portage Street asking for a cash donation for Toys for Tots. His request was denied and he left.

Police say Toys for Tots does not in any way ask for donations by going door-to-door. Watertown Police are asking anyone else who may have had this happen to them, or who might get a request in the future, to get a detailed description of the person, the car, the license plate, or any other helpful information.
