Rep. Hinchey gains seat on powerful House subcommittee
SOUTHERN TIER -- Congressman Maurice Hinchey has gained an influential seat on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.
Hinchey is the sole New York congressman on the committee, which is tasked with setting the Defense Appropriations bill, the largest funding bill in Congress.

Hinchey, an 8-term Democrat, represents New York's 22nd District, which has several major defense companies, including BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin.
Hinchey will also continue to serve on several other House Appropriations Subcommittees.
