Serbia will not bring fugitive to U.S.
SERBIA -- Serbia's government is denying a U.S. request to bring fugitive Miladin Kovacevic to trial in America. Serbia's foreign minister said he will not allow Kovacevic to be brought to the U.S. since his country's constitution does not allow extradition.
The 22-year-old is a former Binghamton University basketball player and wanted in the beating of a fellow BU student, Bryan Steinhauer last May.
Kovacevic jumped bail in June and has remained in Serbia since. Local calls for his extradition have been made by several prominent politicians, including Senator Charles Schumer and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
