Robotic surgery system at Lourdes
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A specialized robotic surgery system has found its new home at Lourdes Hospital.
Surgeons and administrators were showing off the $2 million Da Vinci SI HD Surgical System Wednesday, which they say will replace conventional surgical tools. The system gives doctors the opportunity to visualize surgery through a 3D eyepiece, while reducing surgical incisions, bleeding and hospital stays.
The Da Vinci system will mostly be used as a replacement for traditional laparoscopic surgery for gynecological and prostate surgeries.

"This is not just important for Lourdes Hospital, it's important for our entire community and the surrounding communities. The robot allows us to do some of the most advanced surgeries that there are and also it attracts new physicians to the area. People will come here when they know that we are using the latest technology. This is the most advanced robot in the world today," said Dr. James Condrep, a gynecological surgeon.
There are only two of these upgraded robotic surgical systems in New York State. The other is at NYU Medical Center.
