Aldi's business booming
LIVERPOOL, N.Y.-- It's just about dinnertime. And shoppers are shuttling through Aldi, searching for their favorite items.
"I enjoy picking up the fresh vegetables and fruits, and being able to buy the groceries, canned goods, just variety. Juices, milk, eggs," said Cathy Roberts, of East Syracuse.
"The frozen foods, frozen pizzas, the candy, salad, a little bit of everything," said Bryan Neill, of Liverpool.
Aldi has come on the grocery scene over the past few years as a store that doesn't have every single item, but concentrates on the basics.
"We have a lot of what you can get anywhere else. We have your staples, you know, your milk and cheeses, breads, meat. We have fresh meat. We have our fresh produce section," said district manager Anne James.
By offering a more focused selection of mainly store brand products, Aldi managers say they can keep costs low.

"They're excellent. You can get say twice as many groceries for the price," Roberts said.
The Aldi's managers say they've seen a steady increase in customers since the Liverpool store opened more than three years ago. But they say they're seeing even more people now who want to save in the tough economy.
"Anything you can do to save money in this day and age certainly a plus and coming here definitely helps. I can afford to feed my family and go shopping more often and have money leftover to do other things," Neill said.
Aldi has stores in the City of Syracuse, East and North Syracuse, and other towns including Camillus and Canastota.
