SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Some students in Syracuse are using photography to learn about community. Students at Doctor Weeks Elementary School are putting their class project photos on display in the windows of the Art Rage Gallery on Hawley Avenue.
The theme is "Celebrate Community, Honor Diversity." The students gave a multicultural performance at the gallery in celebration of their community and differences.
"It is about where you help out a person who needs help in your community, or you shovel for people, or just help out," said fifth grader Melynda Beckwith.
"Helping others out and being their friend and everything," said Javon Tyner, also a fifth grader.
School officials say its collaboration with ArtRage Gallery is an effort to build a connection between language and visual arts, and promoting family literacy.
