ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. -- The gloomy weather didn't stop Fort Drum troops and their families from having a great time at the annual Association of the United States Army Riverfest in Alexandria Bay.
More than 4,000 soldiers and family members took part in the days activities and dozens of volunteers provided a picnic dinner for the troops at Boldt Castle.
"The Thousand Island Bridge Authority has owned Boldt Castle for the past 33 years and during 20 years of that period, we've had the AUSA Riverfest here on Heart Island, so this is beginning to become a tradition," said Shane Sanford, TIBA Boldt Castle Director.
"Living in Northern New York, they hear all the stories about the snow and they're off to Siberia and clearly here at Boldt Castle, the Thousand Islands, it's a real opportunity to see how beautiful the area is," said Peter Whitmore, AUSA Co-Chair of Riverfest.
The event also included boat tours, live entertainment and amusement rides.
