Jobs coming to Elmira Heights plant
CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- Nearly 600 jobs are coming to a manufacturing plant in Elmira Heights.
Amtrak announced Friday it will buy 130 single-level rail cars, which will all be built at CAF USA in Elmira Heights. The contract is for just under $300 million.
CAF will perform manufacturing and final assembly work at the plant. The rail cars will be used for long-distance train service.
The first car is expected to be completed in October of 2012.
