SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Shoppers at Carousel Center may notice something new on the roof when they arrive. Three PowAIR Sail wind turbines have been set up atop the shopping center.
The turbines are part of a renewable energy project by Destiny USA and power nearly 30 kilowatts of the building's electric usage.
The turbine's creators say they can work in as little as three miles per hour of wind, while also remaining appeasing to the eye.
"The typical wind turbines, the horizontals with the propellers on them, you get a lot of, some like it, some don't. But where you look at this, it actually looks like it belongs in a bush, you know, it has that shape, or structure. So, most people really enjoy the aesthetics to it, and that's important when you're putting it in those urban and residential environments,” said Raymond Davis, PowAIR Sail President & CEO.
PowAIR Sail is based out of Syracuse. It will also be installing turbines at SUNY Oswego and ESF.
