Fire crews contain glass leak at local plant
CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- Firefighters were back at the Anchor Glass plant in Elmira Heights early Tuesday morning to help contain another molten glass leak.
Crews say there was an issue with the same glass tank that sparked a leak Friday. Employees were able to stop the leak, but firefighters had to be called in because molten glass is 2,800 degrees, so anything it touches will ignite.
Company officials say they are in the process of replacing the necessary parts and will continue production in one furnace. Major repair work will be done at the end of the month.
