POTSDAM, N.Y. -- More than 200 ROTC cadets from area colleges are gaining the skills they need at Clarkson University this weekend.

The Field Leaders Reaction Course put these cadets through different obstacle courses to learn leadership, teamwork and communication. Cadets involved say these skills are critical for active duty.

"Everything about it prepares you really. From the leadership to the learning how to lead to learning how to take criticism so that you can lead down to how to hold a weapon," said Cadet Tiara Brown.

"Pretty much the same thing, it's almost parallel to what we learn, kind of similar training in active duty. Pretty much applies to what we do when we deploy and the same training they'll be doing when they join the service," said Cadet Vidal Garza.

Their training will continue into Sunday evening.
