JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Canadian boat maker is packing up its shop in Clayton and moving to nearby Cape Vincent.
MetalCraft Marine says it's current facilities in Clayton aren't big enough anymore and it's agreed to a deal with the Anchor Marina in Cape Vincent. The company says the move will not only allow for it to build bigger aluminum boats, but also will help it expand its customer base as well.
All ten of the Clayton employees will be moving to the new facility and it's expected a few more hires will be made after the move.
"We've been looking for something larger and really we couldn't find anything, a larger building that was actually on the river, on the water so we can launch and test our boats. It became fairly clear, very quickly that this building, this site, the Anchor Marina was the one to take," MetalCraft President Tom Wroe said.
The move should be complete by the end of the year.
