POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Clarkson University is celebrating green initiatives that have been put into action across campus.
The university has put forth many energy saving efforts on campus toward a more sustainable lifestyle, including solar panels and recycling. And at Thursday's green celebration, college leaders announced one building now has LEED Gold Certification.
College and state leaders say these efforts are great for both the environment and students' futures.
"Look at challenges and find solutions to those challenges. Looking at new ways to lower costs of alternative energy to not only contribute to our community but to society," Senator Joseph Griffo said.
"Our sustainability efforts mimic what corporations are doing. It's what our students need to do when they move out into the world," said Susan Powers, CU Sustainability Associate Director.
College officials are encouraging students to send in their ideas for how to make the college even greener and winners will receive grant money to see their idea through. For more information, visit www.clarkson.edu/green.
