SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Alliance Bank presented a check to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Friday.
They donated $25 for every double hit by the Syracuse Chiefs this season. The Chiefs hit a total of 124 doubles for a donation of $3,100.
The donation was personal for some of those involved with the Chief's organization.
“I have a son with diabetes and he was diagnosed at four-years-old, so this is very special to me. We're still hoping for a cure, he's now 26. When he was diagnosed, I was told in ten years we would have a cure and we're still waiting,” said Wendy Shoen.
This November, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is working to raise awareness about type one diabetes. More than 30,000 adults and children are diagnosed with it every year.
