WATERTOWN, N.Y. - -A very special graduation ceremony took place at Jefferson Community College Saturday. The very first class of nursing graduates from the 'Weekend Scholars' program were honored at their traditional pinning ceremony.
Eleven students attended class every other weekend for the past two years. The part-time weekend format was created to help meet the demand in the community. Those graduating this weekend say this program helped them reach their goals of beginning a nursing career.
Graduate Trinity Marrapodi said, "I do better work at home. And the weekend program gives you more at home work rather than sitting in school classes consistently. So it worked out really well for me."
JCC was able to make the Weekend Scholars Program possible after it was awarded a US Department of Labor Grant in 2009.
