ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The next time you're in a Tops or Wegmans store, keep an eye out for Check Out Hunger campaign ads. When you get to the cashier, you can choose to scan a coupon for $2, $3, or $5 to be added to your bill, and your donation will go directly to the Food Bank of Central New York.
Tops and Wegmans stores region wide have teamed up with the Food Bank to help supply food assistance programs across 11 counties. Officials say every $5 raised will help supply more than seven meals to families in need.
This marks the 18th consecutive year for the program, which continues to be one of the Food Bank's largest fundraisers of the year.
"Check Out Hunger is one of our largest fundraisers. And certainly it helps us to make sure that we're supplying food throughout the year. The community has always been very generous and we're so appreciative. Again, the fact that we've raised ninety seven thousand dollars last year, we're encouraged that we can do that again this year," said Kathleen Stress, CNY Food Bank Internal Operations Dir.
You can look for the Check Out Hunger campaign at Tops stores from now through February 11th, and Wegmans stores through February 25th. In many stores, you can also find piggy banks at registers to donate your loose change to the Food Bank as well.
