FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.Y. -- National Geographic Traveler Magazine calls it the second best winter carnival in the country. Saranac Lake kicks its Winter Carnival off for the 114th year on Friday.

The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival runs from February 3rd until the 12th. This year's theme will be "space alien invasion.” The week includes a variety of sporting events and activities for the family.

The highlight of the carnival is the massive ice castle that is lit up at night, and the fireworks shows on each weekend that happen over top of it.

Tune in to YNN on Saturday, February 4th to catch the fireworks show live. Our Brian Dwyer will be there with a special guest as the ice castle is officially lit for the first time this year. The festivities kick off at 7 p.m.
