NEW YORK -- The New York Gaming Association is touting the economic impact its members have on their communities. The association is made up of nine racetrack casinos, including Tioga Downs in Nichols and Vernon Downs in Oneida County.

Officials there said according to a report conducted by an independent firm, Tioga Downs supported more than 600 jobs in the region last year, and contributed more than $28 million to the local economy. The report also found that Vernon Downs supported more than 550 jobs in the region last year.

Statewide, the Gaming Association said members generated almost $2 billion in economic output.

The report comes as Governor Andrew Cuomo is proposing an expansion of casino gaming in New York State.
