PAINTED POST, N.Y. -- The Village of Painted Post has come to an agreement to sell up to one million gallons of water a day to a subsidiary of Shell Oil.
The agreement will provide a new source of revenue, allowing the village to maintain its services to residents.
The former foundry site on Water Street will be transformed into a new transloading facility that will allow the water to be delivered by train. Village officials say using this delivery method will have less of an impact on the village than having the water transported by trucks.
Contraction on the Water Street facility is expected to begin soon and be completed by early this summer.
