SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The final step is complete in the merger of Unity Mutual and the Columbian Financial Group.

A new sign for Columbian Financial replaced the old Unity one at the building on Plum Street in Syracuse's Franklin Square.

Unity Mutual started in Syracuse more than 100 years ago and merged with Binghamton-based Columbian Financial last summer. The life insurance provider employs 80 people at the newly renovated space in Franklin Square.

Columbian also acquired Syracuse-based 'Farmers and Traders Life Insurance' four years ago.

The company says it is committed to maintaining operations in Central New York.
