ROME, N.Y. -- The Air Force Research Laboratory in Rome has unveiled the newest addition to its facilities: A wall to commemorate the patents that all of their research has garnered over the years.

The wall now holds 82 of the laboratory's patents, starting with innovations patented in 1997.

Air Force officials say the wall will eventually hold all patents secured in Rome, dating back to 1960. They hope it will also serve to inspire new generations of thinkers to get their names on the wall.

"You have made a contribution to research and a contribution to knowledge, it's a big deal in our business and it's a good thing to put their name on the wall here," said Maj. General Neil McCasland.

The wall was paid for with some of the royalties from the laboratory's patents, totaling about $140,000 so far.
