ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Just in time for prom season, local students hold a dress give-a-way.
The Liverpool High School Chapter of "Becca's Closet" organized Saturday's event, providing formal wear for young women who may not be able to afford it otherwise.
"Becca's Closet" has chapters throughout the country, and was created in memory of a Florida teen, who before her death in 2003, had started her own dress give-a-way.
Local organizers gathered dresses from stores, community members, and students themselves, who say helping others look beautiful fills them with a sense of accomplishment.
Tia Piraino, Becca's Closet President said, “I love seeing the girl's faces when they find the dresses that they find, it like makes me feel so like happy, seeing them with a smile on their faces and being able to help them with something".
In addition to dresses, purses, shoes and other accessories were also available, and while everything was free, nonperishable food items were collected to be donated to a local food bank.
