BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Chenango Forks Elementary School got a visit from a special guest Tuesday afternoon.

Ronde the Penguin from the Ross Park Zoo stopped by in honor of International Penguin Day. Students got the opportunity see the penguin up close and ask questions about the animal.

The school also held several other penguin-orientated activities throughout the day, including a morning assembly and special lunch.

School officials say it's a great learning experience for the elementary students.

"The kids, this is really nice here, where they get to have up close and personal with the penguin, they can ask questions of Miss Hardigan from the Binghamton zoo, that hopefully encourage them to read more stories about penguins and maybe just spark an interest," Penguin Day Coordinator Midge Nirchi said.

This is the sixth year that the school has celebrated International Penguin Day.
