SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Dozens of National Grid employees spent their Friday helping create a new green space for the Boys and Girls Club of Syracuse.
Some young members of East Fayette Street club also joined in to help out with raking, removing brush and planting trees and flowers. The new lawn will serve as an outdoor learning space and classroom, but organizers hope the event itself teaches kids an important lesson.
"I think that the bigger lesson for the kids is really understanding and recognizing that adults of this community really care and really love them and certainly a part of what we're doing today is to create a space that they feel good about," said Melanie LittleJohn, Regional Director at National Grid.
National Grid has put on a number of other similar events across the northeast as a part of Earth Day celebrations and the 20th birthday of Energy Star.
