BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- It's now easier for first responders at Chenango Ambulance Services to rescue animals in need. Invisible Fence of the Southern Tier donated an animal rescue oxygen kit to the department Friday.

Representatives from Invisible Fence and EMSTAR also provided first responders with a training session. They taught the group how to apply an oxygen mask to an animal and how to perform CPR on an animal.

They say the goal is to make sure all first responders have the skills and equipment to save an animal in a fire.

"This just is a reinforcement on how to do it differently for a pet, dog or cat, so I bring the mannequins and Cuddles and we making it part of show and tell. They already have the knowledge, it’s just how it can be used on a pet," said EMSTAR Consultant Vanessa Jewett.

The donation is part of a national effort called Project Breathe.

Chenango Ambulance is the first rescue squad in Broome County to obtain the kit.
