SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Dozens of local middle school students are embarking on a week-long science adventure. Bristol-Myers Squibb kicked off its 20th annual Science Horizons program on Monday.

Each year, the program brings in one student from each of the Onondaga County middle schools. The science camp is composed of field trips, lectures and hands-on learning opportunities in various science fields.

Organizers say it's important to give this age group exposure into as many fields as possible.

"When Bristol first conceived to this idea, they thought about high schoolers. But they found that many high school students have already decided what areas they wanted to study. The middle schoolers are very open to all the sciences at this moment," said Kim Buchanan, teacher at Fabius-Pompey.
