ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- After being diagnosed with Huntington’s disease, Western New York native Matt Austin wanted to do something unique. He and a small group of family members, including Matt’s uncle and cousin, have decided to take on two biking adventures, the first from Palmyra, New York to Tyngsborough, Massachusetts.
The group is traveling in an effort to raise money to fund a documentary film on Matt’s accomplishments and hardships, as well as putting a face to the disease. The money will also go to Huntington’s Disease Centers of Excellence for medical care, counseling and support for research.
Matt says the trip has already proven to be tiring, but is a goal he feels he needs to achieve.
“It's definitely a tiring experience being on this ride. But like I said, there's nothing anybody can't achieve and this is one of my goals, to be able to accomplish this ride and so there's nothing that's going to stop me from getting where I need to go," said Matt.
The second chapter of “A Ride with Matt” will be a 1,400 mile trek from San Francisco to Colorado in the fall.
